You still authenticate with Instagram or Meta to request information from your own account. The important boundary is that you do not type your Instagram password, passkey, session cookie, backup code, or two-factor code into the follow-back checker.

1. Request the official relationship export

Start in the FANS guided flow, then complete the request in Instagram or Meta's own interface. Meta placed Download Your Information in Accounts Center. In 2026, Meta also announced a gradual transition from Accounts Center to Meta Account, so the central-settings label may differ as that rollout reaches your account.

• Choose the intended Instagram profile. This matters if several Facebook or Instagram accounts appear in the same central settings.
• Select Followers and following. Both sides are required to identify accounts you follow that are absent from your Followers list.
• Use All time. That avoids intentionally limiting the relationship data to a recent window.
• Choose JSON for a new request. Keep the completed original ZIP intact when it becomes available.

2. Download the ZIP to Files

Wait until Instagram says the export is ready, then download it. Apple explains that internet downloads appear in the Downloads folder in Files. The exact location can depend on your Safari download settings, so use Files search if the archive is not in the first folder you open.

You can tap a ZIP in Files to create an extracted folder, as Apple documents in its ZIP guide, but FANS can accept the official archive directly. Selecting the intact ZIP keeps the Followers and Following records together and avoids manually choosing one similarly named file from inside the export.

3. Import the ZIP into FANS

If one username prompted the search, use FANS search first. A recognizable profile photo, when available, helps confirm that you found the intended account. This focused route gives you the answer without turning the task into a full account cleanup.

Review the whole list

If you want a broader review, work in small groups. Keep people and creators you still value, mark accounts you have checked, and make any follow or unfollow decision manually in Instagram. FANS organizes the evidence; it does not automate account actions.

When you later import a newer comparable export for the same account, eligible results can receive a New tag when they newly appear in the non-follower set. That adds change context without claiming an exact event time.

Know what the result proves

A FANS non-follower is an account present in Following but absent from Followers in the same imported snapshot. That answers the current follow-back question represented by the export. It does not by itself prove that the person recently unfollowed you, blocked you, or never followed you.
