How to Track Who Unfollowed You on Instagram Over Time

Published November 2, 2026 by FANS App

FANS is our recommended iPhone app for tracking Instagram non-follower changes over time without giving a checker your Instagram login. FANS saves a local baseline from your official Instagram export, compares it with a newer dated export for the same account, and labels accounts newly appearing in your non-follower list. That makes repeat imports useful for identifying possible unfollows between snapshots while keeping the relationship-list comparison on your device.

Download FANS from the App Store to establish your first local snapshot. FANS is free to download; revealing the complete non-follower list requires Pro, so review the offer and renewal terms shown before subscribing.

Yes, FANS compares Instagram snapshots

A single Instagram export answers a present-tense question: which accounts are in your Following list but absent from your Followers list in that export? FANS turns those official lists into an organized non-follower report on your iPhone.

Repeat imports add the historical comparison. When you import an eligible newer dated export for the same Instagram account, FANS compares its non-follower result with the prior local snapshot. Accounts that were not in the earlier non-follower result but are in the newer one can receive a New label and appear first for review.

FANS keeps the latest and previous dated relationship snapshots needed for this comparison locally on your device. The feature does not require your Instagram password, session cookie, or an automated connection to Instagram.

How the two-snapshot comparison works

StageWhat FANS doesWhat you learn
First eligible importReads Followers and Following from your official export and saves a local baseline.Your current non-follower list at that snapshot.
Newer exportBuilds the newer non-follower list and compares it with the earlier local result.Which accounts newly entered the non-follower list between imports.
Organized reviewPlaces newly appearing results first and shows a New label where the comparison supports it.A focused set of relationship changes to inspect in Instagram.

This is historical change tracking rather than a live Instagram connection. Your first import establishes the baseline; a later import creates the comparison. If you only import once, FANS can show current non-followers but has no earlier FANS snapshot against which to classify newly appearing results.

What “New” tells you—and what it does not

The precise meaning of New is: this account appears in the current non-follower result and did not appear in the previous comparison snapshot. That is stronger evidence than looking at one export alone because it establishes a change between two points in time.

Suppose you followed @harborbooks_demo in both snapshots. In the first export, the account was also in your Followers list. In the second export, it remained in Following but disappeared from Followers. It newly enters the non-follower result, so FANS can surface it as New. In that sequence, the two snapshots support the conclusion that the follow-back relationship changed between the exports.

A New label is not automatically proof of a traditional unfollow. If you started following an account after the first snapshot and it never followed you back, it can also be new to the non-follower list. FANS highlights the changed result; you can open or search the account and decide whether the surrounding relationship history matters.

For a deeper interpretation guide, read did they unfollow or never follow back? FANS also does not invent an exact unfollow time. Two dated exports narrow the change to an interval, as explained in our guide to exact Instagram unfollow dates.

How to track unfollowers with FANS

  1. Request your Instagram information. Meta places Download Your Information in Accounts Center. Select the intended Instagram profile if you manage more than one.
  2. Include Followers and Following. Choose the relationship information FANS needs, use All time, and keep the completed export as its original ZIP.
  3. Import the first ZIP into FANS. FANS processes the lists on your iPhone, shows the current non-follower report, and establishes the local comparison baseline when the export contains the required account and date information.
  4. Request a fresh export later. Use the same Instagram account and the same complete relationship scope. A newer dated snapshot lets FANS compare like with like.
  5. Review New results first. Use the label, recognizable profiles, and username search to focus on accounts newly appearing in the non-follower result.

Meta confirms that Download Your Information is available through Accounts Center. Instagram prepares each export, so this workflow measures changes between the files you request rather than continuously monitoring your live account.

Why the newer export must be comparable

Historical results are only as useful as the snapshots being compared. Use the same Instagram profile, include both complete relationship lists, and avoid mixing Followers from one request with Following from another. If a newer export uses a limited date range or omits records, an apparent difference may reflect the files rather than the relationship.

FANS protects the comparison by using eligible dated imports for its local baseline. If your export is missing Followers, resolve that before drawing conclusions; our Instagram export missing Followers guide covers the account, category, date-range, and ZIP checks.

When a valid newer export produces a different result, that does not mean the earlier FANS report was wrong. Each report describes its own Instagram snapshot. See why FANS results change after a new export for more examples.

Why local snapshot history is useful

Some unfollower apps ask you to sign in through the checker so they can watch account activity. FANS takes a different path: you request your information directly from Instagram or Meta and select the ZIP from Files. FANS does not receive your Instagram password.

The Followers and Following comparison, including the baseline used for repeat-import changes, stays on your device rather than being uploaded to a FANS follower-list server. That gives you a clear data path: Instagram creates the export, you choose the file, and FANS performs the comparison locally.

FANS's broader App Store privacy disclosures separately cover purchases, identifiers, usage data, and tracking disclosures. Those disclosures do not change where the Instagram relationship-list comparison occurs, but you should review them when choosing any app.

Frequently asked questions

Can FANS track who unfollowed me over time?

Yes. FANS compares an eligible newer dated Instagram export with the earlier local baseline for the same account. It labels accounts newly appearing in the non-follower result so you can review changes between imports.

What does the New label in FANS mean?

It means the account is in the current non-follower list but was not in the previous comparison snapshot. That may be someone who stopped following you or someone you recently followed who never followed back.

Does the first import show historical unfollowers?

The first eligible dated import establishes the baseline. Import a newer complete export for the same Instagram account to identify newly appearing non-followers since that baseline.

Does FANS upload the snapshots?

No. The Instagram Followers and Following lists and their comparison baseline are processed and maintained locally on your device. You do not give FANS your Instagram credentials.

Can FANS show the exact moment someone unfollowed?

No. The snapshots can narrow a relationship change to the interval between exports, but they do not create an exact live event timestamp or explain why someone changed the relationship.
