The decision: local follower lists or saved online audits?

When choosing an Instagram unfollow tracker, ask two separate questions: does it need access to your Instagram account, and does it store the relationship data you provide? An app can avoid Instagram passwords while still saving follower usernames online. That distinction matters if your requirement is to keep the lists used for comparison on your iPhone.

Not uploading the ZIP is different from not sending usernames

Unfollio's privacy policy distinguishes the original archive from the data extracted from it. For saved audits, it documents sending your Instagram handle, export timestamp, and follower/following usernames. Depending on the export, additional fields can include pending requests, blocked accounts, recently unfollowed accounts, and the filename. The original ZIP is not stored.

Its privacy-proof page explains that saved usernames are stored in a managed database and can be deleted through Settings. It also says the public web checker sends no audit payload. That public check is a separate option from saving history; it would be inaccurate to say every Unfollio check uploads follower lists.

Fictional example: Maya wants a current non-follower list on her iPhone and does not want that list retained in a checker's online account. Deleting the original ZIP after parsing would not satisfy her requirement if extracted usernames were still saved remotely. Local list processing also does not mean an app collects no other data. Free features and paid access: compare the actual result

FANS is free to download, but revealing the complete non-follower list requires Pro. The US App Store lists in-app purchase amounts of $4.99 and $9.99 under the same purchase name; those rows do not identify billing intervals. How to check Instagram non-followers with FANS

1. Request your own Instagram export. Use Instagram's information-export controls in Accounts Center, selecting the intended Instagram profile rather than Facebook. Follow the FANS export guide if you need help finding the current menu.
2. Include both relationship lists. Request Followers and Following, choose JSON and All time for the FANS workflow, and download the completed ZIP. A file containing only one side cannot answer who does not follow back.
3. Import the archive into FANS. Use its guided import and select the downloaded ZIP in Files. Keep your Instagram credentials in Instagram or Meta's own export flow; FANS does not need them for the comparison.
4. Review the result and paid-access terms. The result identifies accounts you follow that are absent from Followers in that export. Pro is required for the complete list.
5. Refresh when you need a newer answer. Request and import a new export. Before acting on a name, verify the current relationship in Instagram.

A private account can use this workflow because the input is its own official export; you do not need to make the profile public. Waiting for Instagram to prepare the download is part of the tradeoff for using a file rather than giving a checker account access.

A non-follower list is not proof of an unfollow

One export shows the relationship lists it contains. Someone who appears as a non-follower may never have followed you. Establishing a change needs earlier evidence, and a comparison between exports does not automatically reveal an exact event time. Neither app can turn an old ZIP into a live account scan.

Do not use this result as proof of a block, a ghost account, or someone's motive. FANS focuses on the follow-back question and does not automatically unfollow people. Any action remains yours in Instagram.
