2. Move the actual download into FANS

When Instagram says the export is ready, download the archive and save it in the Files app on your iPhone. Keep the original ZIP intact. Then open FANS, follow the import flow, and choose that archive.

The useful checkpoint is simple: you should be selecting the exported data file, rather than a screenshot of the download page, an email notification, or a saved webpage. If you have several downloads, check the account and date before choosing one. A clearly identified recent export makes later reviews easier too.

FANS compares the supplied follower lists on your device, saving you the work of matching entire lists by hand. Local follower-list processing does not mean the app collects no other data: its App Store privacy disclosures list purchases, identifiers, and usage data, including purchases and identifiers that may be used for tracking.

3. Read the result in the right direction

Your non-follower report answers one question: which accounts do you follow that are absent from your exported followers? That direction matters. Someone who follows you, but whom you do not follow, belongs to a different relationship category.

The report reflects the export's snapshot. A current non-follower is not automatically someone who previously followed you; the list does not establish an unfollow time, blocks, or ghost followers. FANS does not automatically unfollow accounts. You choose what to do with the result.

4. Turn the list into a manageable review

FANS makes the result useful beyond the initial comparison. Available profile photos and names help you recognize accounts, username search helps you find a particular person, and checked-profile indicators help you keep track of accounts you have already reviewed.

If you came to check one person, search for their username first. If you want to review your following list more broadly, work through a small group at a time. You may want to keep following a creator, shop, or publication even when the relationship is one-way. Use the report to make that choice deliberately.

Before acting on a relationship that matters to you, check its current status in Instagram, because it may have changed since the export. This keeps your decisions tied to the latest information while FANS handles the time-consuming list comparison.

5. Import again when you want a fresh check

Request and import a newer export when you want updated results. On eligible repeat imports, New Tag highlights accounts newly appearing in the non-follower list, helping you focus your next review instead of starting with every familiar name again.

If your first import does not give the expected answer

Check the file before requesting another download: is it the right Instagram profile, does it include both relationship lists, and was All time selected? If the archive is suitable, use FANS's import instructions to select the original ZIP again. If records are missing from the download, request a complete replacement; the checker cannot recreate data Instagram did not include.
