The file may appear on one long line or with unusual spacing. Visual formatting is not the test of whether the archive contains complete Followers and Following data.
Do not fix JSON that only looks unfamiliar
A text editor, spreadsheet, online converter, or “JSON repair” website is not part of the FANS workflow. Editing a username, deleting punctuation, rearranging records, saving through another app, or converting the data can change the file or archive structure. Uploading an export to an unnecessary converter can also expose personal account data to another service.
If you requested the wrong format, the safe fix is to request a new official export in JSON—not to convert an HTML export. If a ZIP is incomplete, zero bytes, or will not download, request or download it again rather than rebuilding it manually.

How to import Instagram JSON into FANS
- Request your information from Instagram. Choose the intended Instagram profile and include Followers and Following.
- Select JSON as the format. Use All time or the broadest useful date range when Instagram offers that choice.
- Wait for Instagram to finish preparing the download. A request confirmation is not the completed archive.
- Download the complete ZIP to your iPhone. Save it somewhere visible in the Files picker.
- Leave the ZIP unchanged. Do not extract, rename internal files, convert, merge, or rebuild it.

How to tell unfamiliar JSON from a bad download
Braces and dense text alone do not indicate damage. Look for concrete file problems instead:
- The downloaded ZIP is zero bytes or obviously incomplete.
- The file is still a temporary or partial download.
- You chose HTML instead of JSON.
- The export came from a different Instagram profile.
- Followers or Following were excluded from the requested categories.
- The archive is old and does not contain newer relationship changes.
