FANS Privacy Label: Local Processing and App Data

If you opened the App Store privacy section before downloading FANS, those two statements may seem inconsistent. They answer different questions: where your follower list is compared, and what other information an app may collect. Here is how to read both before choosing an Instagram non-follower checker.

What the FANS privacy label currently says

Checked September 17, 2026, the US FANS App Store listing discloses the following categories. Open the listing's App Privacy section for the latest version; these disclosures can change.

The listing says these are developer-provided disclosures and have not been verified by Apple. Read the categories as a disclosure of possible data practices, not as a log of what happened during a particular session.

Local follower processing and app analytics are separate questions

The Instagram export contains the lists needed to compare who you follow with who follows you. FANS processes those follower and following lists locally. You do not give FANS your Instagram password or connect it to your live Instagram account.

An app can perform that comparison on-device while also having purchase handling, analytics, or advertising measurement. A purchase event is a different kind of information from the usernames inside a follower export. The presence of an analytics category does not, by itself, establish that an archive was uploaded. Equally, local comparison does not establish that every part of an app operates without network communication.

Keep the privacy claim specific: FANS offers an on-device, official-export workflow for checking non-followers. Do not expand that into a claim that FANS has no analytics, no identifiers, or no tracking disclosures.

What Apple's label terms mean

Apple distinguishes information linked to your identity from information collected without that link. “Data Not Linked to You” still describes collection; it is not the same as “Data Not Collected.” Apple's tracking category concerns combining app data with information from other companies for advertising, or sharing it with data brokers. Use those definitions to read each section independently. A category shown in one section does not cancel a disclosure in another section. Also distinguish the App Store label from an iPhone permission prompt: one summarizes declared practices, while the other asks for a particular permission. Compare no-login checkers using three questions

1. What account access does the checker require? Look for an explicit explanation of whether it needs an Instagram password, session access, or only an export you select. “No login” answers this access question, but leaves the next two questions open.
2. Where is the archive processed? Check whether the product describes on-device comparison or asks you to send the file to a server. If this is unclear, ask before importing. A file-selection button alone is not evidence of where processing happens.
3. What other data practices are disclosed? Read every privacy-label section, its purposes, and the linked policy. Decide whether those practices fit your preferences separately from whether the tool can produce the follower result you want.

For example, imagine two hypothetical tools that both advertise “no Instagram password.” One compares an export on your phone; the other requires uploading it to a website. That shared headline does not make their handling of your archive equivalent. Now imagine the on-device tool also discloses analytics: you would still evaluate those analytics, without treating them as proof that its list comparison happens on a server.

If a policy and a product description leave you uncertain about a specific data type, ask the developer a concrete question such as, “Are the usernames from my imported Followers and Following lists transmitted off-device?” Avoid sending your archive with that question. Where FANS fits

Choose FANS when you want to check non-followers using an official Instagram export on your device, without sharing your Instagram credentials. Follow the in-app export instructions, import the JSON ZIP, and read the result as a snapshot. A newer check needs a newer export; it is not live monitoring.
