What FANS actually reads
FANS uses the relationship data inside the official export you intentionally choose. It compares the included Followers list with the included Following list locally on your device.
- If an account appears in Following but not Followers, it is a non-follower in that imported snapshot.
- If an account appears in both lists, it follows you back in that snapshot.
- Favorites, feed preferences, likes, saved posts, Story audiences, and messages are not needed for this comparison.
A smaller data boundary is safer
A non-follower checker only needs the two relationship lists required for the comparison. FANS does not need a live Instagram session, your Favorites settings, or control over your account to produce that result.
Will favorite accounts appear in FANS?
A favorite account can appear in FANS if it is present in Following but absent from Followers in the imported export. It would appear because of that follow-back relationship—not because FANS detected that you marked the account as a Favorite.
If that account appears in both lists, it follows you back in that snapshot and is not a non-follower. Adding or removing an account from Favorites alone does not rewrite an already-downloaded export or refresh FANS results.
Can someone know you added them to Favorites or checked them?
FANS does not notify, contact, follow, unfollow, message, like, or otherwise interact with Instagram accounts. Selecting your export in FANS does not announce your review or expose your Favorites choices to another account.
